Hydrocyclones are used to separate particles smaller than 250 microns. Its use in crushing circuit, especially when milled particles are less than 150 microns, is invaluable. One of the most important applications of hydrocyclone is in the control of rotational load in the mill circuit. In other words, after milling, the product feeds to the hydrocyclone and the smaller particles enter the flotation circuit from the overflow, but from the under flow the coarse particles re-enters to the mill.
Hydrocyclones are used for the following purposes:
- Materials classification [5 to 250 microns]
- Dimensional control in closed circuit with mills
- Desliming [removal of clay particles below 10-15 microns]
- Fine particles separation from the sand classifier
- Processing of coals small particles
- Plants wastewater control
